Obituary

Sister William Margaret Romen, OSF, 78, died in Assisi House Queen of Peace Convent on January 20. She had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 57 years. Sister William Margaret (Barbara Anne Romen) was born in Philadelphia. She graduated from West Catholic High School. Prior to her entrance into the congregation in 1960, she lived in Bryn Mawr where she was member of Mother of Good Counsel Parish and worked as a key punch operator at Pringle Publications. Sister William Margaret professed her first vows in 1963 and later earned a B.A. in English from Neumann University. She ministered primarily in elementary education and eldercare.

Sister William Margaret ministered for 12 years in the Diocese of Trenton where she taught at Blessed Sacrament School in Trenton and Corpus Christi School in Willingboro. During her 11 years in the Diocese of Harrisburg, she taught at St. Joseph School in York and St. Joseph School in Lancaster.

Since 1986 Sister William Margaret ministered in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. During those 34 years she served as part of the support staff at Assisi House, the congregation’s retirement residence in Aston.

All services will be held in Assisi House, 600 Red Hill Road, Aston, Pennsylvania, 19014 on Monday, January 27 A Christian Wake Service will be held at 9:30 A.M. followed by viewing. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 A.M. Burial will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Aston. Sister William Margaret is survived by cousins, and by her Franciscan family. Donations in her name can be made to the Sisters of St. Francis Foundation, 609 S. Convent Road, Aston, PA 19014.
